Test Card ‘D’

Test Card 'D' introduced in 1964 was the product of the joint design committees of the BBC,ITA & BREMA. This was the first Test Card to have a full written technical specification.
Even the best transmitters needed occasional maintenance…
As Test Card 'D & E' used the same basic pattern, the shortcomings of the latter also afflicted the former…
This revised version was introduced in 1967. The contrast of the frequency gratings was increased and the two spots either side of the 'D' were added. These modifications could also have been applied to 'E' to make it acceptable, but by that time plans for Test Card 'F' were well advanced…
